Green ReflectionMusee de l'Orangerie, Paris Although Monet has not traditionally been a part of this unit, it is impossible to exclude him from a discussion of Impressionism. He was one of the first - his painting Impression Sunrise gave birth to the group's name. He was also one of the last. While most other Impressionists went off in different directions, Monet remained true to the cause until the end. Monet enjoyed creating series of paintings of the same object as the sunlight changed throughout the day. He started out in poverty, but he spend his last years in wealth surrounded by his waterlilies at Giverny.
