Butler

Prendergast painted advertising placards in Boston before moving to France and Italy. He returned to Boston in 1900. After exhibiting with the Eight, he moved to New York City in 1914. His style is characterized by "rich, powerful color applied in dots and in short brushstrokes." He painted landscapes with figures on the seashore, Boston street scenes and sketches of Neapolitan and Venetian life.
