Grado

Grado became the refuge of residents of Aquileia who fled from Attila the Hun in 452. The two cities vied for religious control of the area for centuries afterwards.

Mussolini built a causeway to the picturesque island. The beaches of Grado attract huge numbers of tourists (mostly from Germany and Austria) during the summer.

Buildings in the historical section date back to at least the fifth century.

Although there are many hotels in Grado, most are reserved long in advance. It may be easier to find accommodations in Cervignano.
